The artists showcased on this release will thrill the hearts of many an African music enthusiast, on the continent and abroad. There are the heavyweights like Samba Mapangala from Kenya, one of the most famous and loved musicians in East Africa, making his name as far back as the 1970s. One of his golden hits is presented here. Then there’s Super Mazembe one of the legendary crossover bands from Congo to East Africa, regarded as pioneers of Congolese rumba in Kenya. Another luminary is Kora award winner and Kenya’s top male solo artist, Eric Wainaina, known for his poignant lyrics that have earned him the tag of Kenya’s “political” musician.

Moving to Tanzania, there’s Karubandika, one of the most enduring songs of East Africa’s golden era of big bands.

Kidum is contemporary Burundi’s top musician and one of the most popular East African solo artists. He is a deft composer, arranger, vocalist and drummer with three albums to his credit.

Uganda weighs in with a variety of music. There’s Priscilla & Qute Kaye, members of the new generation of Ugandan music that comprises mainly energetic dance rhythms with similar beats, created to fill dancehalls, or melodic cool songs that express the aspirations and frustrations of the youth in their daily quest for love, support and friendship.
