NEW MUST-BUY ALBUM FOR LOVERS OF AFRICAN JAZZ

Get ready for a new compilation to warm the chords of your heart. Essential South African Jazz: The Jo'burg Sessions is an eclectic collection of African jazz standards, lovingly restored by some of the present masters in the genre. It features some of the most definitive and influential African jazz songs ever to have been composed - plus some newer and lesser-known gems.

This compilation is the first edition of the African Cream Music African Jazz series. Each one highlights a different African country, each with its own particular flavour, which it brings to the richly diverse musical tradition that is African jazz. Add to that a unique ethnic and traditional flavour to the mix.

All of these songs have been carefully selected, reinterpreted and re-recorded especially for this compilation. A band was assembled comprising of some of South Africa's most eminent jazz musicians such as pianist Paul Hanmer and acoustic guitarist Greg Georgiades. Producer Andre Abrahamse, one of South Africa's finest composers, producers, arrangers and bass guitarists was brought in. Abrahamse brought to the project his wealth of experience gained as a live performer and session musician in Europe and the UK and his expertise as a producer of much South African jazz. He has worked with a number of world-renowned African musicians, including the likes of Fela Kuti.

The musicians chose songs that would represent a full range of renowned composers, as well as showcase some lesser-known, yet talented artists. It was a journey of rediscovery for the musicians, which any lover of jazz will share on listening to the album. "It was a personal honour and privilege to redo these songs and pay homage to them, and to the artists who composed and first performed them," says Abrahamse, adding, "Not only did we get the chance to play some of our favourite jazz tunes, but we also got to enjoy the shared experience of reworking and recording them together."

Revel in the reinterpretations of familiar favourites, as well as discover fresh sounds and songs. This promises to be a smoothly satisfying listening experience for all lovers of African jazz.
